INTRODUCTION

This journey highlights the fact that nature has no concept of 'waste' and that a variety of progressive approaches to design (ZERI, Cradle to Cradle, Biomimicry) are poised to revolutionise the materials and products we use by making the shift from linear to cyclical systems. This quantum shift involves insights like designing 'compostable' materials rather than generating further pollutants by recycling.

Living Machines are highlighted as an example of how we can produce clean water from sewage and factory effluent through natural processes. The journey also looks at the linear concept of Time in the industrial world and compares it to the cyclical view of indigenous people.

The Toolkit shows how we can all support the local food economy and close the gap between producer and consumer by supporting a variety of local food initiatives.
